Or better, with a traveller.
Huntington J. P. Stone had a special charisma. Born in India in 1876 to a diplomatic family, he was sent to England to study while quite young at Cambridge. A tireless explorer, he embarked on sailing ships and steam ships, hiked sunny slopes, flew over mountains and deserts in airplanes that no one would have thought had a chance of flying. For his endeavours and courage, he was nicknamed “Stonefly”.
Inspired by this imaginary figure, in 1993 the brand Stonefly was launched. The idea of travel as a way of challenging usual habits became a key inspiring principle for the company.
We have found a balance between innovative solutions for sports shoes and the stylistic needs of beautiful Italian footwear.
This is mainly due to three technologies:
Blusoft®, the special gel cushion that softens impact and allows walking with lightness and without fatigue.
Second Skin®, an innovative construction philosophy that makes footwear as enveloping, soft and light as a glove.
Blusoft Memory®, the first removable foot bed furnished with a memory foam insert at the heel, made of a highly breathable material.
What does it mean to us to be an Italian company? Feeling a responsibility, first of all.
The responsibility of belonging to a culture that has for centuries cultivated art, living well and beauty. We originated in Montebelluna, in the province of Treviso and we are headquartered there: world centre for sports footwear. But we are just a few kilometres from Venice, the city where beauty is found in its most developed and perfect forms, in every square, every alleyway, in every canal that sparkles with gold and deep red at sunset. But Venice is also a city where, especially, one walks. Up and down the bridges, back and forth on the streets, crossing and re-crossing the squares.
Our “spiritual home” could not be anywhere else.
The Walking with Art – Stonefly Art Prize was created in 2010 in collaboration with the Foundation Bevilacqua La Masa of Venice, privileged observation point for the most interesting young artists working in Venice.
The project is about the development and growth of a relationship between two worlds and two kinds of knowledge, business and artistic cultures. The quality of this exchange is based precisely on the existence of a cultural dimension that allows this connection, but that however needs intensity, dialogue, availability to be put into play.
